TIME TO TALK
We interviewed Jamie Stevens from Jamie Stevens Hair

What was your inspiration for the salon?
Iíve always really loved the monochrome look; black and white is my thing! So when we designed my logo it was always going to be black and white, thatís where we started and wanted that to follow through into the salon. I did a lot of research when designing the salon and as black and white can be quite masculine I added softness with other little touches. Having a London salon was such a huge dream for me so research was key!

Who is your role model?
Well it would have to be my Mum! I learnt everything from her when I first started out, both from a business and creative perspective, so she definitely was and still is a huge inspiration to me. Additionally, creatively Errol Douglas who I worked with for 6 years and became his Art Director. Errol helped my skill set evolve in most aspects of†hairdressing ,especially in dealing with shows and shoots, plus I bounced off his energy, love and passion for this industry.

Best moment? (customer base/ award winning/ promotion/ messages/recommendation)?
There are so many to choose from! Opening my own salon, winning a multitude of awards & and being a global ambassador for a global hair company are just few of many but most of all being the joint youngest person to ever be nominated for British Hairdresser of the Year has got to be the greatest achievement of my career as well as being placed into the hall of fame this year for winning Menís hair dresser of the year for the third time!

Funniest hairdressing moment?

Best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?
Reach for the moon and even if you donít get there, youíll fall somewhere between the stars. My mum has said this to me from a very young age and it has always stuck in my mind it has always pushed me to strive to be the best I could possibly be.

Whats the most important quality you look for in someone joining your team?
Passion. I believe that if you surround yourself with passionate and driven people it will only drive you and the rest of your team to strive for better. A certain amount of skill is down to natural flare but a lot can be taught. You canít teach people passion and dedication so I find that a great starting point and things can only get better from there.

What would you like to be known for?
Creativity & Skill

What couldn't you live without?
My phone and of course my wife
