We interviewed David Baker from The Vault Hair Salon and Spa

What was your inspiration for the salon?
My inspiration for The Vault Hair and Spa was to create a quirky salon where you can relax among friends, indulge and be pampered whilst taking time out of your busy lives. A place that is luxurious and friendly where attention is paid to the little details. When we took over the old bank, we wanted to keep all the safes and vault doors to add to the character and the clients experience, we have followed this through with the clients receiving gold coins and bank related goodies.

Who is your role model?
I think for a creative person its impossible to have one role model, my hairdressing career has developed with the help of many role models from supportive family members to influential stylists I’ve worked with, but if I had to name someone I would say working along side Andy Heasman for many years has influenced the way I approach hair.

Best moment? (customer base/ award winning/ promotion/ messages/recommendation)?
At 27 I’ve been lucky enough to experience many things in the industry from British Hairdressing Award finalist to travelling around the world styling hair for shows, but the best moment was opening my 1st salon and if I’m honest working day in day out with my amazing team, watching happy clients leave is something I will never underestimate.

Funniest hairdressing moment?
I think I literally have a funny moment everyday in the salon but working with creative people like clothes stylist Bernard Connolly on my latest shoot definitely had some funny moments.

Best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?
I suppose the best advice I’ve had is to “never give up” i know its obvious but there has and will be times where you will get knocked down and its important to hold your head high and try again, this could relate to competition work or even a hard day in the salon, never give up and rewards will come your way.

Whats the most important quality you look for in someone joining your team?
The most important qualities i look for in someone new is hard working, polite and most importantly team work. In my salon we work as a steam to a achieve targets and goals and it can only be done as a team of friends and hardworking people.

What would you like to be known for?
I think i would like to be known as someone who takes it to the next level but in reality i think i will be known as the cheeky chap that influences stylist with technical know how and an infectious personality. But that makes me happy too…

What couldn't you live without?
In terms of practical tools i couldn’t live with out my black Kasha Millenniums I LOVE THEM or my phone as my whole life is on the thing..… but in reality i couldn’t live with out the support from my family and friends
