We interviewed Jason Miller from Charlie Miller

What was your inspiration for the salon?
Charlie Miller is a family-run business named after my father, who opened his first Edinburgh salon in 1965. Itís a testament to him that we are still going strong and we are extremely proud of that. We have a great team behind us who look after the hairdressing needs of our mixed clientele, and as we have five salons in the city we like to think we are a big part of the Edinburgh scene. We really believe everyone who visits the salon is an amazing individual, and we always make sure to treat them as such. We employ 120 people who work across our five salons and have opened the Charlie Miller Academy, which is a very exciting move for us; the education courses have been really busy so itís great to know that we are playing a part in training great hairdressers and creating jobs in our local area.

Who is your role model?
I donít have one although I do admire so many people in our industry from both an artistic and business level.

Best moment? (customer base/ award winning/ promotion/ messages/recommendation)?
There have been many, but to pinpoint a few I would have to say that being welcomed, alongside my wife India, into the British Hairdressing Awards ĎHall of Fameí, and it will be a very exciting moment to witness my father Charlie Miller receive his OBE from the Queen at Holyrood Palace this summer. We have also been very lucky to have experienced many an exciting moment where we have presented prestigious fully choreographed hair shows in Canada, Australia, South Africa, India and Europe and, with our photographic work, we have won 14 British Hairdressing.

Funniest hairdressing moment?
Whilst opening our show clothes suitcase in the LíOreal Academy in Johannesburg, SA we discovered it wasnít ours (we saw the funny side afterwards when we got the correct case back).

Best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?
By my father Charlie: to be genuine, have empathy and be warm to others Ė but donít be a walk over.

Whats the most important quality you look for in someone joining your team?
Someone who shows values of genuineness, empathy and warmth and is also a good people person.

What would you like to be known for?
Quality Ė it was, and will always be, the approach in everything I do

What couldn't you live without?
My family
