We interviewed Mia Dellicompagni from Francesco Group

What was your inspiration for the salon?
We wanted to make the group something that appeals to everyone whether they be old or young, have Afro or European hair. We wanted Francesco Group to be somewhere that everyone could come and have their hair done. We wanted to build a culture that embraced everyone who stepped through our doors.

Who is your role model?
My role model is my Dad, Frank. Heís the founder of Francesco Group. At 66 heís only just stopped working behind the chair. His energy and passion for the hairdressing industry is amazing and something that I am constantly inspired by. His journey from small beginnings in Italy to building the group that we have today is a journey that I admire. I think heís an inspiration to everyone at Francesco Group.

Best moment? (customer base/ award winning/ promotion/ messages/recommendation)?
My proudest hairdressing moment would be when my brother Ben (Francesco Groupís Managing Director) and I finalised for Business Director of the Year at the British Hairdressing Business Awards. It was a great honor to have been recognised by our industry as having strength in both the hairdressing and business sides of the business was a very humbling experience. I think as a group the proudest moment for everyone would be winning the Training Award at the British Hairdressing Business Awards. Training is the blood of Francesco Group, itís something that we strive to push further and further to help develop Francesco Group by investing in training.

Funniest hairdressing moment?
Back in the days of shampoos and sets when I was training we used to get ladies falling asleep under the hood dryers, which we always found funny. Although the funniest moments have to be the tricks we played on the newbies sending them out for tartan paint, left handed screwdrivers and to the bakers for a hair bun!

Best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?
The best piece of advice I was given was to step back look and your work and ask ĎIs it beautiful? Is it interesting?í If the answer is yes then youíre on to a winner. Less is more is always great advice too.

Whats the most important quality you look for in someone joining your team?
Without a doubt it would be passion, bucket loads of it. The rest we can teach but to have a successful career as a hairdresser you need to be hugely passionate about what you do and the industry you work in.

What would you like to be known for?
I would like to be know for driving the family business to a new level alongside the Francesco Group team - my brother Ben, husband Yogi and cousin Anya. We have been very fortunate to have been given the skills and ability to drive the business to an exciting and greater level within our industry. We work tirelessly together and we want to grow the brand to become even bigger and better.

What couldn't you live without?
As a hairdresser I couldnít live without my Y/S Park Comb. Cutting is my strength and to be able to take clean sections and teach these I need my collection of Y/S Park Combs. On a personally level it would be my two children!
