Beverly C

Beautiful, talented, award-winning, experienced, stylish… Beverly C, MBE (formerly Beverly Cobella) is the UK’s most prolific female hairdresser Awards and more awards: Beverly was awarded the MBE by the Queen in 2008 and was British Hairdresser of the year (twice!) in 2001 and 2002 - the first female to win the award. She also won Londo...

Kevin asks:
I colour my hair semi permanently at the hairdressers black, my natural colour is auburn, I have always hated that colour, but now I have dyed my hair so long, it looks false, too dark for my skin tone. What can I do achieving a more natural colour, still keeping away from a ginger colour.

If you are a natural red colour your skin would be quite fair, which is why black is too dark and false looking. You do not have to colour that extreme. I suggest you go for a light ash brown. This is a very natural colour tone and great for the guys.

Julieta asks:
My hair length is slightly below my shoulders. I have natural dark brown hair with medium blond cap highlights. My hair is in great condition but its a bit drier than usual. I wish to make a drastic change and cut my hair into a beautiful pixie cut. But there are so many different kinds of haircuts I am not quite sure if I would be able to pull it off. But I did find a hairstyle I love on this site...

Problem is I have a different face shape than the model shown in the link. I asked many Stylists and they told me my face is oval shaped. But would style suit me or should I try searching for another? Also considering having those highlights would they look unusual with a pixie cut for now their faded into a golden colour. What are the pros and cons for short hair?

You sound like your desperate for a new look but a little afraid to take the plunge. Short hair is huge for this year, its the strongest hair trend for 2008 and you will see this especially in the spring and summer months. So why do you not go for it! I would certainly lose the golden highlights you had and go for a beautiful brunette tone like the photo. You are lucky - the oval shape face is the easiest to work with. There are no real pros and cons for short hair - but you will need to cut it more often as you will notice it growing out of shape quicker than longer cuts.

Mariah Carey asks:
I need to wear a fringe as I have short hair and it does not suit me without or a short fringe. I keep it straight to below the eyebrows. Lately it keeps turning out and will not stay straight. Can you please recommend something? How do you keep your fringe straight, its lovely. Thanks a million in advance.

My own fringe certainly does not look perfect in the mornings! But I do blow dry it each morning quickly to get it looking good for the day. You may need to change your brush that you blow dry your hair with. Try the large round metal Denman its great. Also you could use a Babyliss Pro 230 straightening iron - it has several heat settings as you do not need it on a high setting to achieve the perfect fringe.

Good luck
