I am 48 years old; I did permanent hair straightening two years back, after which it looked like burnt and damaged and it keeps standing on end.

Hello Anita

Many of these smoothing systems are very harsh and damaging so its difficult to get your hair back into good condition again as hair grows very slowly. I would suggest to have a big hair cut, use a moisturing shampoo and conditioner as well as a moisturizing mask weekly. Take a hair supplement and make sure your diet is rich in omegas, this way youíre feeding the hair from the inside out. Only use oil once your hair is dry and styled as oil builds up on the hair and can make it feel dry and look dull. ...More >

Ellie asks:
Hi I have never dyed my hair before and would really like to as its almost summer. I have very dark brown hair to the point itís almost black. Do you have any advice and product suggestions so my hair wonít turn that horrible orange colour everyone dreads! Iíve been wanting to do this for a while as I have no idea what product would be good. I need to be able to buy this product in the UK. I just plan on going lighter brown nothing dramatic at the moment.

thanks so much

Ellie

Hi Ellie

If I was you Ellie I would go to a salon and ask to be a model and ask for a very soft caramel balayage. That way youíre not too committed to have regular appointments and also its not going to be lifted to light so you wonít get orange bits but it will look fabulous. You can use a silver conditioner to keep it a nice cool tone when you have been in the sun. ...More >

Tetyana Kyselova asks:
Hi, I have bleached my hair a couple of times and now itís in shades of ginger, yellowish and blonde from the top to bottom, from the different times of me bleaching it. I tried to cover this with a semi-permanent hair dye, but it turned out to be lighter at the top and darker at the bottom, so I was wondering if a permanent hair dye would do the same or will I be able to get more less an even hair colour?

Hello Tetyana

Generally hair colour will be always be lighter at the top because of the warmth from the scalp as well as the hair is a new regrowth so processes evenly. The middle and ends of hair tend to be more porous and not as well conditioned so colour grabs and looks darker and sometimes uneven. The best thing to do is once you know what colour you want the end result to be, choose a shade thatís two shades lighter than it. Pop this on clean dry hair and leave for 20mins, shampoo off and apply the desired result on to dry hair and process according to the instructions. This should even up the result, prevent as much fade and should be easily maintained. Do make sure your using a treatment mask on a regular basis too. Good luck, Kala ...More >
