Chloe asks:
Hi, Thanks for reading my question. First I have straightened my hair for around 3/4 years daily as it was frizzy but it has now began to fall out and has gone really short. I have tried all sorts of treatments such as hair masks and deep conditioning as well as hair shampoos and conditioners such as John frieda and Garnier Blends targeting dry and frizzy hair which hasn’t worked. Last week I went to get a Brazilian blowdry which was said to make my hair more manageable, where less heat would have to be used on my hair so I could give it a chance to grow, however this hasn’t worked. I cannot go without straightening my hair at all as it is far too frizzy, however, by straightening my hair is falling out and I no longer know what to do. Any suggestions ? Many thanks

It sounds like a Brazilian Blowdry, also known as Brazilian Keratin treatment, would be perfect for your hair to save you from having to over blow dry and over straighten your hair, but there are two issues that come to mind. Firstly, the newer Keratin treatments work by injecting natural proteins into the hair, but it’s vital with these treatments to respect the moisture/protein balance. If your hair is really dehydrated and the hairdresser has not infused moisture in before or during the treatment, then you may not be receiving the benefits you’re expecting. A quick and easy fix may be all that is needed, try adding high-quality moisturising ingredients which could possibly restore the moisture/protein balance. Moisture Mask by KeraStraight (rrp Ł26.50) contains Palmeira Tucuma and Carob Bean Extracts to add moisture without weight. Alternatively you could visit a KeraStraight salon and have an in-salon Intense Boost treatment which is a 30-day treatment that repairs, strengthens and hydrates; this would not straighten your hair, but could rebalance your hair and bring out the benefits of your previous Brazilain Treatment. Secondly, like all products, there’s a huge choice out there and there’s a great deal of difference between the best and the not so great. The second option, if you believe that your previous treatment just hasn’t worked, is to wait 30 days and have a KeraStraight Ultimate Treatment, which is a 4-month straightening and repairing treatment. Ultimate is the most advanced Keratin treatment that feeds multiple proteins deep into the hair and realigns the shape of the hair for up to 4 months. None of these treatments are recommended as wash and leave, but more to minimise the time and effort needed and also to rejuvenate the hair so the little time and heat required is not harmful to your hair in any way and you have the added benefit of KeraStraight delivering fantastic anti-humidity benefits. You can find your nearest KeraStraight salon from the Salon Locator.

Please recommend a shampoo and conditioner for smoothing hair?

In my opinion, the best products on the market for smoothing dry and frizzy hair are the Kérastase Discipline Bain Fluidealiste Sulfate Free Shampoo and the Kérastase Discipline Fondant Fluidealiste Conditioner. Both products boast Morpho-Keratine technology to restore flexibility, tame frizz and protect the hair and scalp against humidity.

I work in a very dusty environment and need to shampoo and condition my hair daily to keep it clean. Please can you recommend products that I can use daily that won’t dry out my hair and scalp?

When you wash your hair daily – and this is a choice that is totally personal to you and your lifestyle – then it’s important that you choose products that are designed for daily use, after all, you want to ensure that you aren’t drying out your scalp, which can cause irritation, and that you are putting hydration back into the hair. However, these requirements need to be balanced with your need to give the hair and scalp a thorough cleanse. The Kérastase Chronologiste range is particularly effective when used daily – I’d recommend using the Revitalizing Bain Shampoo, a formula that combines vitamins A and E to cleanse the hair thoroughly, while revitalising the scalp. Perfect for all hair types, it will rid your scalp of all the dust, as well as other impurities, whilst strengthening hair fibres. It also helps to maintain colour integrity, so is particularly good if you have coloured hair. Alternatively, you could try co-washing, with a product that’s designed to gently cleanse the hair, while conditioning. KMS MoistRepair Cleansing Conditioner will remove impurities and refresh your hair, but will also condition, injecting moisture straight into the hair fibre. Taking away the need to shampoo, this clever product provides a quicker alternative to washing and conditioning – which is ideal when you’re washing your hair daily.
