Beki asks:
I'm a 22 year old artist and aspiring Designer and I need help! I have very fine textured hair and it is thin it always just lays flat. I love texture in hair so I perm it, I want to grow it out but am told not to because it will look stringy and flat. I am not sure what to do. I have a square face shape and a high forehead so I need a bang. I donít have a lot of time to spend on styling it, I donít mind spending half and hour but on a day to day basis I donít have time. I would love to know what you think I should do. What size of rods would work for me and also what length would work for it.

It is very difficult giving accurate information without seeing you, but, I will do my best.

As your hair is fine and you like your curl result/volume it gives you should look at having another curling technique in the curl process. ...More >

I would not use a rod or perm roller. I would pin curl wrap small sections in opposite directions each time to give a natural textured look. Apply a small plastic grip and apply lotion.

By applying this curling technique you will get more volume easier, as the curls work against each other when styling giving a softer more natural look than being wound around a roller.

Give your bang a soft curl or movement also as this will add to the finished look. Do not allow it to grow too long as this will make your styling much harder. I would grow it just below jaw length, BUT DO not have your perimeter outer shape strong club cut as this will emphasize your square face shape. Instead have disconnection around the perimeter (outer shape) that falls longer to give you an unstructured shape on the length. With movement this looks fantastic.

Marie asks:
My hair is very fine, but the last 6 months or so it seems to be getting worse and my scalp is beginning to show. I don't know if it is getting thinner or I am losing my hair. I am getting quite paranoid about looking bald. Is there anything I can do to make my hair thicker or make my roots appear thicker so my scalp doesn't show through? I have to wash my hair every day, will this be making it worse? I have considered extensions but don't really want any high maintenance styling also I have heard they are expensive to have done!! Can you please help?

I donít know what colour your hair is but you might want to think about making it darker if itís on the light shade, being darker it will give the illusion of being thicker and the colour will give it more body. You might also like to consider a hair loss concealer such as DermMatch available in various shades

Joanna asks:
I have coloured my hair for the last 5 years as I have the same grey white streak my mum has on my side only- eat you heart out Cruella - however here lie the problem. My hair is fine, flyaway untidy mess looks great when I leave the salon until I wash it and am straight back to untidy, semi wavy dry hair. My problem is I am going into hospital and will have limited use of my arms for 12 weeks. I would like to have a soft perm as I canít brush or style during that time. Please can anyone suggest the best options to me?

I would suggest having your hair in a shorter style. If you have a soft perm or wave introduced into your hair then it WILL need some styling to make your hair look its best. ...More >

If you have a shorter style for a while, while you are recovering, you could also have some colour introduced to give you texture and a style that always looks great with minimal styling requirements.

The colour will thicken your hair, not only in appearance but in volume also. The introduction of some colour can be placed so that it works with your hairstyle, not only when you have visited the salon. Explain to your stylist the issues you have with your hair and she should be able to give you a style that will work with your natural wave and fine texture to ensure your hair looks its best while you are unable to maintain it as you usually would.

Have a look on the style gallery at some shorter hairstyles with colour to give you some idea of looks you could choose.
