I used to have really thick and long hair, but recently I have noticed that it isn’t growing like it used to and the ends are really thin. I use box dyes to dye my hair and I do straighten it most days. I also use a back combing spray at my roots and hairspray to give it volume, as my hair is really flat once straightened. Why isn’t my hair growing as well and why has it gone so thin? Also, please can you recommend any products that will add volume to my roots without damaging my hair?

First of all, I would recommend that you stop backcombing your hair and instead add height by using the amazing Kérastase Styling V.I.P Volume in Powder. This wonder product is specially formulated to give your hair a backcombed effect, and boasts a unique, horizontal diffusion system that enhances the hair’s volume and body from the root right through to the tip. To help hair growth, and give it more strength and body, I would invest in the Volumifique Bain by Kérastase Resistance, which is a creamy shampoo that works on long hair to give a texturised, long lasting shape. Finally, always use a heat protector before you straighten your hair. Kérastase Discipline Fluidissime Spray is great!

Hi there, I’m a 27 year old male and unfortunately slightly receding... I’m currently going through a horrible time with my overall hairstyle choice and have no idea what to do with it. I’ve tried lots of styles including the fully shaved/buzzcut look, right up to medium length waves, shaved sides etc, and I feel that nothing suits me whatsoever. Is there anywhere I can go (UK) where somebody could give me some personalised advice on what would look best on me? Please help! Thanks

Hi Alonso, I am so sorry you are struggling to get good professional advice on your hair and styling. May I suggest that you book into a reputable unisex salon and ask in advance if you can have a full consultation free of charge. You may have to phone around but there are lots of amazing salons around that will help advice. Meanwhile take a look at your diet and make sure its rich in nutrients as well as use the best shampoo and styling products possible, also invest in a hair dryer as that will really help you create more hair styles and maybe a supplement this will all help condition your hair and scalp and that will in turn improve your hair and its appearance. Good luck

I am considering getting a perm. Not the 80s one, rather something softer with big waves (soft Hollywood curls in my mind) which would add more volume and dimension into my hair.
So, my questions are - with my hair quite long, would it hold the big waves? Is it even possible to get big rods? What is the largest size? Would it still last 6 months or less? Is it worth it?

The perm on large rollers will add some body and volume to your hair, but you will still need to dry and style your hair.
To achieve a Hollywood glamour look it’s best to use rollers but having a perm will mean the style will hold and last longer. It should last longer than 6 months in the middle lengths and ends.
