Styling And Trend Forecast by Angel Montague-Sayers

Styling And Trend Forecast Aw14, By Angel Montague-Sayers, Art Director, Sally Montague Hair Group, And Uk Creative Ambassador, Cloud Nine

For Autumn/Winter 2014, hair was either soft and loose or swept up and styled, with numerous designers showcasing a new take on natural styling.

Marc Jacobs sent the models storming down the runway at his Autumn/Winter 2014 show, with a twist on the prim and proper plaited hairstyle we all loved in our childhood. Moving away from the looser, bohemian braids of the summer, these sharp neat versions are perfect to suit a more tailored winter wardrobe. Also keeping it strict were Givenchy and Alexander McQueen, which also jumped on the trend, with McQueen even showcasing cornrow styles.

I personally loved Rag & Bone's take on the relaxed ponytail, with an organic texture to the top. The hairstyle was created just underneath the occipital bone in order to keep the emphasis on the season's oversized collars.

At Diane von Furstenberg, the girls swayed down the catwalk with chignons inspired by Russian ballerinas at a dress rehearsal, showing a more ‘lived in' version of the classic up-do, while backstage at Carolina Herrera and Donna Karan, stylists piled hair high around a structured centre parting.
One of my favourite American designers, Alexander Wang, certainly didn't disappoint on the hair front. Models resembled cartoons with wet-look comb-overs, creating a strong band of slicked hair over their foreheads.

Soft, brushed hair was seen at Nina Ricci, while designers including Isabel Marant and Viktor & Rolf stayed true to their roots with hair tumbling in tousled waves inspired by the cool, Parisian girls.
