Anne Veck Summer Hair Trends

A finalist for the British Hairdressing Awards, the Creative HEAD Most Wanted Awards and winner of the International Haute Coiffure Francaise Talent Trophy, hairdressing expert Anne Veck gives us the ins and outs of the new hair trends for the year!

“Summer is here which means new trends are upon us! As a hairdresser, I often take a look at the runway for inspiration and I try to encompass the trends in my salon. Feather headbands and spray-painted ponytails can be a slightly daunting look for some, so I love creating a more wearable version of the catwalk hair styles! Combining textures will play a huge part for the summer time so curling your hair half way down and leaving the top half straight will be right on trend. By gently running your fingers through the hair, you will create natural, tousled waves that also have the chic, polished look that you can wear for the evening.

Another key trend that will be making a comeback this year will be choppy layers, particularly for short hair. This look is incredibly carefree and edgy but the top area is neat and smooth at the crown, the end layers should be thick and choppy that creates depth and thickness!

Now, it's time to bring the straighteners out - poker straight hair will be a very popular trend in the summer! I cannot stress how important it is to use a heat protectant spray, split ends are definitely avoidable if you use the correct products. Using a hair clip to help section your hair will also help you get impeccably shiny and straight locks. Donna Karan and Chloe were the leading names rocking the poker straight hair trend on the catwalk this year!

One of my personal favourite trends for spring/summer is definitely the low pony tail, although this sounds simple, it is no easy task to create the perfect ponytail. The key is to keep the crown area incredibly smooth and even. Using a hair serum when your hair is wet will keep the hair cuticles smooth and manageable. Using a fine tooth comb will enable you to style the hair evenly and create a lovely, casual look for the daytime. To make the low ponytail wearable for the evening, using gold accessories will definitely glam up this look!”
