Award season is officially under way! This annual spectacle of glamour always drives us green with envy and provides the world with major hair inspo. 2018 is no exception!

Hair stylist to the stars Asgar Saboo offers his take on the 2018 Awards Season, with his top 3 looks and step-by-step guides on how to recreate them at home. With these simple steps, you too can look red-carpet ready with no need for a glam squad!

Penelope Cruz's Classic Curls

From the moment she stepped onto the red carpet at this year's Golden Globes, Penelope Cruz radiated old Hollywood glamour and sophistication with this classic look. Penelope's style is a red-carpet staple and super easy to replicate at home.

Top Tips:

Straight hair: If you have naturally straight hair make sure to use product that adds movement to your locks. Sea salt spray is the perfect product for this. Add to damp hair before roughly drying with a hair dryer and scrunch the ends as you go to really work the salt spray. Want to maximise volume? Blow-dry your hair with your head upside down!

Wavy hair: If your hair is naturally thick and wavy, make sure to use lots of hair product to create glossier, more refined curls. The best products to use are hair oils such as macadamia or argan as they are easily absorbed into your locks. This will give you a smoother and glossier result for longer.

To Curl: To create loose curls like this, use a wide curling iron. The smaller the tip, the tighter your curls will be. Always curl away from your face for the most natural look.

Angelina Jolie's Half Up-Do

This sophisticated half up-do worked perfectly for Angelina at the Critic's Choice awards! The soft hairstyle worked effortlessly alongside her red lips, diamond earrings and white feathered dress to create an angelic look.

Top Tips:

Using the ends of your eyebrows as a guide, pull half of your hair back off your face. Secure your hair to the top of your head using a barette clip or use bobby pins if you want a looser style. Pull out a few strands of hair to frame your face for an even more relaxed look. Spray very lightly with hairspray to secure.

Add a pair of statement sparkling earrings and red lipstick to ramp up the glamour, just like Angelina!

Lady Gaga's Corset Braid

Lady Gaga is no stranger to a bit of controversy, and her Grammys hair really got people talking! Her jaw dropping corset braid meant all eyes were on her.

The glamour of awards season means it's the perfect time to take risks, making this look an absolute favourite.

Top Tips:

This style is a lot simpler to perfect than it looks! Firstly comb through wet hair and apply mousse to maximise texture. Part the hair right down the middle and blow dry thoroughly.

Now for the fun part… create a French plait on each side of the head and take a piece of string, weaving it through the two braids to create the corset. Imagine you are lacing a shoe. Spray generously with hair spray to secure and voila, you're ready for lights, camera, action.
