Top Tips To Prep Your Hair For Autumn

Top Tips To Prep Your Hair For Autumn by celebrity hair stylist Asgar Saboo

The Emmy awards have long been a platform for US TV stars to showcase their fancy do's on the grandest of stages, and the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards on the 17th of September was no different. From buns to chignons, waves to curls, the Emmy awards once again produced a sea of glamorous hairstyles for us to digest and emulate.

Hair maestro Asgar Saboo, who has styled a broad range of A-list personalities such as Cindy Crawford, Eva Longoria, Katrina Kaif and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan, is here to share his top tips on how to achieve the perfect Emmy hair-do's that will leave you looking and feeling like you have just stepped on to the red carpet.

The slicked-back, center-parted chignon

Section the bang area from ear to ear secure with a clip. Gather the rest of your hair into a low, loose ponytail. You can then unclip the front section and create a parting. Then twist the hair on each side of the parting and gather it into a pony that sits right on the top of the first ponytail.

Shiny, Wet –look curls

Take some curl definer and apply it to the root, then smooth and rake it through the entirety of the larger section making sure you coat all of the strands. Then take a smaller section within that larger section and move the rest of the hair out of your way. Then rake your fingers through your hair thoroughly 3-4 times, but on the last rake hold on to the ends and gently shake the hair up and down a few times to set the curl. Make sure you are holding the hair in an outward motion, away from your scalp. This ensures that your curls will be defined to the root, but won't fall flat. Then finish off by air drying the hair.

The High Ponytail

Give the hair some texture using dry shampoo, this will allow your ponytail to stay in place all day long. Next, pull your hair up towards the crown, making sure to pull the hair up not back. Holding the ponytail in place with one hand, brush out any bumps with the other hand to ensure a smooth, sleek ponytail. Once you placed your ponytail in the centre of your head and visible from the front, it's time to secure the pony in place with a hair elastic. For some added texture and volume, tease the ponytail with a fine-tooth comb, gently combing the hair upwards towards the front.

Gather a triangle-shaped section of your hair starting at the front of your hairline and ending at your crown. Clip this piece of hair out of the way and pull back the remaining hair into a simple, smooth ponytail that sits just above the occipital bone (the little bump in the back of your head) and secure with an elastic. Us some flexible spray to hold the hair in place as you work. No release the clipped section and use a fine-toothed comb to comb back small sections until you are satisfied with the volume. Gently smooth the top section of hair back over the ponytail, and secure with bobby pins. For the finishing touch, take a small piece of hair from the ponytail and wrap it around the base, covering the elastic and bobby pins.
