Cheryl Ann Cole (née Tweedy; born 30 June 1983) is an English singer, songwriter, dancer, fashion designer, author, and television personality. Cole rose to fame in the 2000s after becoming a member of pop group Girls Aloud through ITV’s reality television programme Popstars: The Rivals. They have become one of the few UK reality television acts to achieve continued success, amassing a fortune of £25 million by May 2009.
With Girls Aloud, Cole has been successful in achieving a string of 20 consecutive UK top ten singles (including four number ones), two UK number one albums, and received nominations for four BRIT Awards, winning Best Single in 2009 for "The Promise". In early 2013 Girls Aloud announced they had split up.
In 2008, Cole became a judge on the British reality television show The X Factor becoming a winning judge twice out of three times. Cheryl Cole has become recognized as a style icon, appearing on the cover of British Vogue and Elle. But in 2011 Cheryl left the UK version of The X Factor to judge on the American version, however she was sacked from the show. In 2014 Cheryl announced that she would be returning back to The X Factor for the eleventh series.
In September 2004 Cheryl began dating the Chelsea and England football play Ashley Cole. The couple announced their engagement in June 2005, the couple married in July 2006 and signed an exclusive deal with ‘OK!’ magazine worth £1 million. In February 2010 Cheryl announced she was separating from her husband. Cheryl stated in an interview to ‘The Guardian’ that she would carry on to use her married named, as changing it back would make her look ashamed of her marriage.
