Beth Ditto (born 1981) from Arkansas is the lead vocalist of American band ‘The Gossip’. Ditto first came into the public’s attention in November 2006 when she was selected as the coolest person in rock by NME magazine - being placed at number one in the magazine’s annual ’Cool List’. Beating Faris Rotter of The Horrors and Lily Allen to the top spot NME cited her ’non-conformity’ as the reason for her selection - she is a lesbian, weighs around 210 lbs. (about 15 stone), is an outspoken advocate of gay rights, and is also in a relationship with a transgendered individual who was born female but who now identifies as a man. Ditto was also nominated for ‘Sexiest Woman Of The Year’ at the NME Awards 2007, however she lost out on the award to Kate Moss.
