Alanis Nadine Morissette (born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on 1 June 1974) is a Canadian and American singer-songwriter, guitarist, record producer and actress. She has won 16 Juno Awards and seven Grammy Awards, was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards and also shortlisted for an Academy Award nomination. Morissette began her career in Canada, and as a teenager recorded two dance-pop albums, Alanis and Now Is the Time, under MCA Records Canada. Her first international album was the rock-influenced Jagged Little Pill, released in 1995, which has sold more than 33 million copies worldwide. Her following album, Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, was released in 1998 and received positive reviews from the media but sold considerably less than Jagged Little Pill. Morissette took up producing duties for her subsequent albums, which include Under Rug Swept, So-Called Chaos and Flavors of Entanglement. Morissette released the greatest hits album ’Alanis Morissette: The Collection’ in late 2005 and her seventh studio album, Flavors of Entanglement in mid-2008. In total, Morissette has sold more than 60 million albums worldwide.
On 22 May 2010, Morissette married rapper Mario ’MC Souleye’ Treadway in a private ceremony at their Los Angeles home. Their first child, Ever Imre Morissette-Treadway, was born on 25 December 2010.
