"I'd dyed my hair brown because I thought it would make me appear more classy and intelligent. But it completely changed my personality." says Chantelle Houghton who famously entered a Celebrity Big Brother house as the only non celebrity and won.

It all started as a fairytale - while she was in 'the house' she met and fell in love with Preston - lead singer with the Ordinary Boys (real name Samuel Preston). He left his French girlfriend, linguist Camille, for her and they got married after a whirlwind relationship.

At the time he said: "I fancied Chantelle straight away - who wouldn't? She's gorgeous, brilliant, funny... everything I look for in a girl. I'm not bothered whether she has blonde hair or fake nails. That's not why I like her. I like her because she's the way she is. That's why she's sexy."

Preston continued: "We had an almost instant connection of the kind I never thought I'd experience, she's like a soul mate."

So it should have been happy ever after, each of them accepting each other for what they are - so what went wrong? Strangely enough for a reality show relationship reality kicked in!

Chantelle recognised that their lives were worlds apart -
"He was so wrong for me and I was so wrong for him. We were like from two different planets. He loved politics and wanted to talk about it. But I know nothing about politics, it doesn't interest me at all. I wanted to watch Hollyoaks on telly but he preferred a serious documentary. I'd go and buy Victoria Beckham's autobiography and he'd buy an educational book.
I'd fancy buying a BMW and he'd want an old Jag. He loved Brighton and had all his friends there. I hated it and had all my family and friends in Essex. I loved trendy champagne bars in London. He loved ordinary local pubs.

And he told me I'd looked far sexier as a blonde than a brunette. I knew he wasn't the person I wanted to be with."
She felt that going brunette had contributed to the change in her personality, making her feel dull and boring.

Chantelle has since changed back to long blonde locks and hopefully she can now become the free spirit we all know and love. She won Celebrity Big Brother because people liked her for herself - her fans were concerned to see her losing so much weight and looking so sad. Now the hard decision to split with Preston has been made, she is starting to get that sparkle back.
