Colour me beautiful

WITH Spring well and truly in the air, it is the perfect time for a change of colour. I've been absolutely loving the latest colours out there and I think that clients are getting really adventurous.

It's exciting to colour a boring brown into the vibrant burnt coppers and auburns. It's also fab to add just a hint of a shade to a brown, blonde or dark colour just to work in a bit of variation. Colour can also work well with enhancing a new cut and show off layers and angles.

If your budget has been a little tight lately and you've opted for a home box colour and got it wrong - don't panic! Professional colourists relish a challenge and I think there's no colour disaster that defies correction.

With the increasingly popular clip -in extensions and pieces, if you are a little scared to dip your toe in the world of colour there's so much out there that can funk up your colour - without a sniff of peroxide! If you have black hair and fancy a flash of red, or platinum and you want some pastel pinks - just try it with a clip-in extension and if you really love it - you have the confidence to know that you can get it coloured.

Generally, it's nice to go lighter in the summer, when the days are lighter, we see the sun more and lighter hair looks great with a tan. Even a few cleverly placed highlights can give fine hair the appearance of thickness.

For 2012 I think we're going to see a lot of bright hues, dip dyeing and pastel toning. It's retro and pretty and has already been sported by many of the models in international hair and fashion shows.

The important thing to remember when you've invested time and money into your new hair colour is maintenance. When it comes to maintaining, you should invest in quality products. Just as you would handwash a delicate jumper rather than putting it in the washing machine it's worth spending a bit more on shampoo and conditioner. It will also help your colour last longer - saving you money in the long run. Always go with the well known and trusted brands like Revlon Professional, Schwarzkopf, John Frieda, Clairol and L'oreal.
