This month’s hair trend lowdown

Just when we thought the ombre and dip dye styles were no more, they are being picked up by more and more celebs and show no signs of ‘dying’ out (whether we like it or not!) There are however a few updates to the style. The bright, bold dip dyes seemed to be replaced with washed-out pastels. This softer take on the original style takes a little of the harshness out while keeping that unique edge. Whilst the ombre change from dark to light has become more gradual, creating a softer and subtle yet stunning effect. We also love the emergence of ombre in reverse, blonde to brunette – great for creating summer holiday sun kissed locks!

With even the likes of Dame Helen Mirren experimenting with pastel pink hair earlier this year, we are seeing even more Brits being inspired to be brave with their hair colour. The likes of Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards, Katy Perry, Fearne Cotton and Rihanna are all fans of freshly coloured tresses. Olive skin tones can take a bright, strong pink and fair or pale skins look good with either candyfloss clolours or hot pinks. Anyone with short hair could try an all over colour but can experiment with say a section of pink in the fringe. Mid to long hair works well again with the ombre style, which is lower maintenance and an easy, take on the trend. It will carry on well into the summer because it’s fun and light hearted. The trends for pastel pinks and peaches are really wearable for multi tonal blondes as well as brunettes, but red heads beware, this one isn’t for you!

Whatever you do with your hair this month make sure it shines! High quality shiny hair is bang on trend. Leave it down rather than tying it up for once and let its natural texture take control. If you have frizzy hair you can manage it by applying a good quality mousse. Or straighten hair for that ultra glossy and shiny look!

For a versatile and adaptable hair style for every day and every occasion take a leaf from some of the old classics such as soft pleats, simple chignons and classic plait rolls - also great when on holiday this summer to keep cool.

Whilst last year was all about the blunt fringe hair trend, this year’s most popular style is the micro fringe. This is a fringe that has been cut much shorter than your typical fringe hairdo. Seen on the likes of Lady Gaga and Katy Perry the micro fringe works best when kept serious and precise coupled with a blunt bob. Nonetheless, longer hair around the face is not off limits, it’s just not for everybody. It you are thinking of a micro fringe, make sure you book in for a free consultation so your face shape and hair can be professionally assessed to make sure it will work for you and your look.
