A
healthy lifestyle leads to healthy hair.... |

Hair
is fed by the blood flowing
to the follicle so a good diet and circulation is essential to healthy
looking hair. Protein is important as it forms a large part of the
make-up of hair. If you know you are not getting enough fresh food
in your diet it may be wise to take a daily supplement of a multi-vitamin,
some are particularly good for your hairs condition so ask at the
health food shop.
Frequent massage loosens the scalp and
improves circulation, encouraging the hair to grow and giving it
elasticity. As a weekly treat massage with a conditioning oil such
as Green Things Aromatic Conditioning Oil, which has stimulating,
antiseptic and astringent properties of cedar wood and rosemary.

Plant
based shampoos and conditioners are designed to help maintain the
PH balance of your hair and contain some of natures best known conditioning
agents such as henna, camomile, horse chestnut, rosemary and other
natural ingredients.
HENARA - Shampoos
and conditioners contain horse chestnut for dark hair and camomile
for fair hair and are available in normal or dry/treated hair.
TIKI - Do
a lovely range containing nettle, marigold, camomile and rosemary.
DANIEL FIELDS - First
Aid Conditioner contains avocado and soya beans protein and is an
excellent moisturiser for frizzy hair.
Every couple of weeks
it is a good idea to treat the hair to an intensive conditioner
- most hair types benefit from a treatment that really penetrates
the hair shaft. Treatment with honey will strengthen and repair,
almond oil will moisturise the scalp and mineral salts will nourish.
DANIEL FIELD Minimal
Hair Repair Masque will help repair seriously damaged hair.
HENARAS Treatment Wax
is an old favourite which makes hair silky soft and shiney.
Henna has been used to
change hair colour from as long ago as Cleopatra and is still available
in its powder form. It will not lighten hair but will deepen and
enrich hairs own tones, especially in brunettes and redheads. The
colour will fade gradually but can be built up with frequent applications.
Vegetable colours are made from herbal extracts that will give deep
shine to hair.
HENARA do a range of henna powders.
VEGGY COLOUR ORGANIC from Herb
UK is available at many salons - ask your stylist.
Check out your local Body Shop or herbal shop
for finishing products - there are vegetable based waxes; non-alcohol
hairsprays and shine complexes. If you feel you would benefit from
a daily supplement ask your local herbalist about Brewers Yeast
tablets or a herbal massage oil for the scalp. If you are particularly
interested in natural products names to look out for are Goldwell,
Greenleaf, L'Anza and Phytologie and many women swear by the Aveda
range which combines science with pure flower and plant extracts.
Both Lamaur and The Body Shop also feature recyclable packaging
so there no excuse for not getting 'back to nature' and reaping
the benefits beautifully!
