 K asks:

I have thick curly hair but a thin face and I am wondering whether to get short hair or keep it just past my shoulders how it is!

Using the correct products in your hair should calm it down so it doesn’t drown you. I can recommend "Smooth" creme by Philip Kingsley to calm it down whether your hair is long or short.

 Alison asks:

I have always had long, thick hair but in the last few years due to illness and medication I have only half the hair I had. Despite using thickening products it is now starting to look noticeably thin. I would like some ideas of styles to make it look thicker. I am 39, have a round face and thanks to the medication (steroids) I am slightly overweight. The good news is I’ll be off the steroids and on something else which won’t make me lose my hair and put weight on shortly, so hopefully my hair will grow back. Currently, my hair is about 6 inches below my shoulder with some long layers. I have a semi permanent dye a few shades darker and warmer than my natural colour.

The best way to make your hair look and feel thicker would be to go for more of a just above the shoulders bob style, with just a few long layers in. The bob style will definitely give you the effect of thicker hair, while the long layers will help you achieve some body and volume.

 Pamela asks:

I have really thick hair and a high hairline! I don’t know what the best hairstyle would be for me. I have it in a bob at the moment, but after about 3 weeks of getting it cut, it’s really thick again! I have a full fringe, do you think I should keep it short or try to grow it?

It’s always difficult to advise without seeing the person but I wouldn’t suggest growing your hair as this will make life harder for you because of the thickness.

What can work well with very thick hair is to have your hair layered. This will reduce some of the weight in your style and hopefully make it easier for you to style.

 Annie asks:

I have coloured my once warm dark hair for 30+ years now I am having to retouch grey/white roots almost every 2 weeks. I have asked the hairdresser about and had full head blond highlights as I would like to eventually stop colouring and let the grey shine through but can’t bear the idea of 2" grey/white roots and don’t want to cut very thick course mid length hair short. Trouble is the highlights are brassy and unnatural looking. I know it can be done as I have seen a similar head of hair coloured by Nicky Clarke to perfection, I just can’t afford his prices, why can’t your average hairdresser do this. Is their a special trick or what should I ask them for to get it right? Should I have the colour stripped first? Currently 90% grey coloured light red brown

My advice would be to book a free consultation with a Wella Master Colour Expert. These colour specialists are highly advanced in all colour techniques and should be able to create the colour you are after.

 Brian asks:

My hair is impossible. For the longest time it was medium length and it seemed to co-operate then but I decided to go with something a little shorter for the summer. My hair is insanely thick and a little wavy and I have tried everything with it. When I went to the hair dresser I asked her to thin it as much as possible cause I have had this problem whenever I try to style my hair and I guess she did, but it didn’t seem to help. It co-operates when wet, but as soon as it dries it looks like I did my hair with oven mits. Waxes, gels, hairspray, freezing spray, pomade, none of it really works. I don’t really want to go back to the longer hair cause everyone else seems to like it better this length, and I would to if I could figure out what I can do with it. Any suggestions?

What I would suggest is the Keratin Complex Treatment which will help loosen the wave and make your hair fell and look more manageable.

This is not a straightening process but when used on unmanageable hair it has achieved fantastic results.

 Lauren asks:

I have a couple of questions to ask as I can’t find reliable answers online. 1. I’ve heard that you can add mousse to the roots of dry hair to add volume, will this make the hair greasy? If not, what’s the best way to use it? 2. Is texturing spray the same sort of thing as ’sea salt spray’? If not, what is it? 3. I have naturally curly hair (the curls are not too tight but they do ringlet) & I have GHD sea salt spray. Will this help add a thickness to my hair? and if so, what’s the best way for me to use this product to create thick, curls?

Ok firstly applying mousse to dry hair can make the hair at the roots greasy so I would apply it to damp towel dried hair.

Texturising spay and sea salt sprays are very similar. They both will create a textured casual look and the best way to apply it is the same as above but try to let the hair dry as naturally as possible.

 Gemma asks:

I am getting married next May and don’t know what to do with my very fine hair I was thinking of getting extensions but had them before and as my hair is so fine you could see the glue through my hair, and to put my hair up I don’t have enough hair to get a fab up do can you help please as I have no idea what to do, I also have a veil and small tiara.

Congrats on getting married. Ok, a few ideas...

If you are fair haired you could go a bit darker to give the illusion your hair is thicker. Getting some movement and texture in the hair is helpful. Be careful that your veil and tiara aren’t too heavy.

Have a few trials to make sure you feel confident with your hairdresser and take pictures. If it is loosely put up then the hair piece can be introduced into the top and blended in.

Good luck!

I have thinning hair and would like to get a perm to make it look thicker is that ok or a No No!

This is all very well but please try some thickening styling products before you have it permed to really see if you need to actually have it permed to create this kind of thickness.

 Lee asks:

I have very thick and curly hair. It looks gorgeous curly but the only problem is that it’s incredibly thick that it looks like a mop, so I have to straighten my hair every few days and keep it that way. There really is no other way to style by hair, unless I want to scrunch it with gel or mouse however after a half hour my hair literally frizzes into the same problem I had before so there is no point. Summer is on its way and I don’t know what I’m going to do when it comes to hair because I’m going to shower everyday and straightening it will damage it and the humidity will affect everything. Any suggestions?

You could try something that has been nicknamed the 3 month blow dry, this is something called Keratin Complex Treatment.

Basically this is a treatment that adds Keratin back into the hair and is ideal for people with frizzy hair as it will cut down drying time dramatically, help calm the frizz whilst still allowing you to wear your hair curly or straight.
