 Chris asks:

For the last 6 months I have been losing my hair. I have always had very thick hair so I am quite concerned. When I gave blood last month they said to ask the doctor to check my iron. I had a full blood count and was told I need further tests as I am anemia. would this cause my hair loss?

This could account for your hair loss. You could always visit a specialist hair salon or a Tricologist for advice as some specialised ones have machines and treatments for stimulating blood flow to the hair follicle (root).

Now, Lexington International have developed and patented the HairMax Laser Comb to miniaturize the internationally established technology of laser hair care. So now you can bring effective hair care technology into the comfort and privacy of your home, office or hotel - at a fraction of the cost charged by hair clinics.

The results are fantastic you only have to look at the review.

 Katherin asks:

I used to have straight thick hair but since I moved to a new house in front of the beach my hair has gone totally out of control, and now its horrible, I have curly (almost fried) hair and under that curly hair is the straight healthy hair I have tried a lot of products.

Try soaking your hair in a mixture of water and baby lotion this should add moisture to dry frizzy hair. Rinse well with warm water or even lightly shampoo this should keep things under control

 Stacey asks:

I sort of have a few challenges all in one which is frustrating! I have very fine hair, I have a double crown and my hair gets greasy very easily too. I wear my hair short because when I try to grow it, it tends to get a bit straggly, limp and again greasy. The double crown doesn’t help because when I wake up in the morning it’s sticking up all over the place and when trying to grow it I still have to wash it and blow dry it every single day. I’d love to have feminine, long luscious hair - is there any way I can achieve this? Or will I always have short hair? And if I will always have short hair that’s fine but how do I combat the double crown and grease! I feel so yucky and not like a lady at all! Though it does look great when freshly washed and blow dried, but disastrous the next morning! Thanks heaps for your help!

Ok let’s try to sort the oily hair out first. Firstly invest in a specific oily scalp shampoo and always wash your hair with luke warm water and not hot is this makes the scalp produce more oil.

As far as the double crown is concerned I’m afraid that will always be a problem with short styles but just as a suggestion you could consider Racoon International’s hair extensions to make your hair thicker and also the length you’ve been after.

 Snehal asks:

My hair is black, thick thick, curly and frizzy, it reaches below my shoulders. I’ve tried colour streaks 5 years ago, I have not tried any treatments for my hair yet. Unfortunately my hair grows very slowly and it’s two or three years before it really looks long (because of the curls); right now it looks puffy and frizzy, though I use appropriate lotions. I have a medium forehead. Lately I am experiencing a lot of dandruff and hair loss problem. I am planning to go for straightening of my hair. Please advice.

If you are experiencing a lot of hair loss, please wait before having a straightening cream applied. Go visit a good quality salon for a professional consultation first so they can asses your scalp and hair.

It is not unusual to find "A lot "of hair coming out, you typically loose 100 hairs a day and this can seem quite allot when you have long hair.

As your hair grows slowly then it may be coming to the end of its life cycle which may explain the slow growth and loss.

As stated above, please visit a good quality salon, (go to a few for the consultation and choose the one that you feel most comfortable with and gives the best advice).

There is a great guy I know in USA called Nelson Chan who has a salon in Hollywood. See if you can visit his site for advice.

Good luck

 Georgina asks:

I have very thick wavy hair and I really love it but hate it at the same time. It is a nightmare to style. I struggle to straighten it fast, my glamour curls won’t stay in and my hair won’t stay crimped even for 5 minutes. My hair is naturally oily but I cannot use hair spray because it makes my hair greasy especially with being a teenager what could I do or use to make my hair stay in the style I want for longer.

Why not try a very soft perm that gives you a wave to your hair then maybe it would be easier also to enhance the curl using a tong or heated rollers. It would also help to dry the hair a little leaving it less oily.

 Katie asks:

I have thick hair and I straighten it about once a month to prevent damage, I have half curly, wavy hair and it can sometimes get annoying, I don’t know how to wear it. Are steam flat irons better to use than ceramic? Also could you recommend some hair dyes that are chemical free or has no peroxide, ammonia or bleach.

Gary SunderlandAnswered By:

Personally I would NOT use steam flat irons. Remember the production of steam is at boiling point and this can have a damaging effect on the cuticle of the hair.

I would recommend FHI Heat Platform Irons. These irons should be used in "one pass" this is one slow motion over each section of hair to allow the technology inside the plate itself to help maintain your hair condition.

If your hair is very thick but you have colour on it then reduce the temperature on the dial to around 180 degrees and use the "one pass" technique I spoke of above.

You will notice your hair looks and feels much healthier.

There are colours on the market that do not have peroxide, ammonia or bleach but it totally depends on what you are trying to do and what if any chemical processes you have used already.

Let me know and I can be more specific.

 E Jones asks:

I have naturally blonde red hair which is unusually fine and not very thick. It is poker straight and sits flat even after blow drying with volume boosters and using straighteners at the roots to provide lift - also wind moisture etc totally flattens it out again. I use to have a great hair stylist who managed to cut a shape into my hair which meant it didn’t flatten within two hours (it lasted all day even in poor weather) and still held its shape when I went for my next eight week cut - however this stylist left the salon and they won’t tell me where she went! I have tried to explain to at least six different stylists at various country wide salons who charge a lot for a cut (which I am happy to pay if I get a good cut) that my hair needs shape cutting in - what term should I use. My old stylist use to "thin" my hair which gave more ummph - when I tell them this they use those texurising scissors on the layer ends which just makes it flyaway and this doesn’t give any lift or volume. Also after two weeks it’s sitting flat to my head again! Could you please tell me what technique I should be asking for - as the "senior" stylists I have come across appear to have a total lack of understanding/knowledge on how to cut my type of hair - I can’t believe I’m the only one! My hair use to be jaw length and cut up into the back to provide bulk and we would alter the longish fringe to the side depending on the mood and or define layers around the face - as styles changed. I am getting really desperate as I am a 43 yr old who can not afford to look like a drowned rat or disaffected teenager! Please help!!

I wish I could tell you that this was the first time I have heard this, but it could not be further from the truth.

Under no circumstances let a stylist attack your hair with texturising/thinning shears, it will make your hair FLAT and FRIZZY.

You will definitely get the best results with a soft razoring technique "internal diffusion" which gives you soft supporting volume to prolong the volume and lift you need.

In all my years this is the only technique that truly works.

Please ensure you use a very experienced stylist competent in this technique, as in the wrong hands it will result in your hair been thinner and flatter.

Good luck

 Michelle asks:

I have extremely thick hair and I mean extremely. It’s about shoulder blade length and is a curly, wavy mix. There is just too much to do anything with it, without it taking 3 to 4 hours. I want to get it cut but I am just not sure what to do with it exactly. I would like to get it cut up to my collar bone, and razored. But I am afraid that it will be a big puff after that and that it still will take forever to do. So what do you think? What is the best cut for me in your opinion? Don’t forget how thick my hair is, everyone that has ever done or felt my hair has said they have never meet anyone with such thick hair in their life.

Gary SunderlandAnswered By:

Having a razor technique called internal diffusion will reduce the bulk and thickness of your hair. This WILL reduce the time you need to spend on drying and styling your hair.

Ensure you select a hairstylist that is competent in razoring techniques. Done correctly it will bring your hair to life.

Good luck.

 Heather asks:

My hair is really thick. What length and style do you think suits thick hair?

Darren MessiasAnswered By:

A lot depends on your face shape, but the best rule with thick hair is to make sure it is layered to reduce the weight. Also if your face shape suits shorter hair this can be great for people with very thick hair as the maintenance is much easier.

 Lisa asks:

My hair is naturally curly and frizzy I straighten it every day and it can take me up to 45 mins as my hair is very thick but it never looks sleek. Also when I am on holiday and in and out the pool I never know what to do with it as it just looks a big frizzy mess and looks as though I have just got out of bed. Can you suggest anything that may help?

Matthew DavidAnswered By:

When straightening hair try taking smaller sections to help smooth out easier, also there is a process called the Brazillian blow-dry this blow-dry will help to eliminate frizz and smooth really well for about 3 months it is fairly new an can at the moment only be found in a few London salons good luck
