I am 27 and I have long thick brown hair, it has sections that are a bit naturally wavy but there are some bushy bits, it's due another trim. I try to put waves and curls in it, using mousse heat and curl protection spray. When I go to a salon they just drop out in an hour, I don't want to have layers into my hair as I love it long. Is there anything else I can try other than putting it in twists/pleats the night before damp, using these products? I rarely use heat or products but I spend the money on good shampoos and conditioners to keep my hair shiny and healthy – but am desperate for styles that will stay!

The only thing you could have to encourage any curls to stay longer is to have a soft perm but even then, if your hair is thick and with no layers, even that will struggle to keep in.
What you need to think about is whether you would have some layers through your hair to give you what you desire because without having layers there is limited possibilities!
