 Ashraf asks:

I have very hard, dry and zigzag (meander) hair. Really I hate my hair because I can’t make any style so for that every time I just make my hair very small. Can you suggest something for my hair it’s curly. very dry, very hard with no shine.

I think all the things you dislike about your hair stem from it being dry. And ’dry’ literally means that - a lack of moisture inside the cortex, or inner fibers of the hair (the cortex makes up about 80-90% of the hair). A hair in good condition will have a moisture content of about 10% but for one reason or another (environmental, chemical etc.) the moisture levels commonly drop much lower than this. When that happens the cortical fibers start to break up, the cuticle scales on the surface of the hair ’open’ and become vulnerable to damage which then causes further surface disruption and damage and so on.

In your case the hair has become dry it loses it’s shine because the rough surface of the hair no longer reflects light off it as (presumably) black hair will when in good condition. There is probably quite a bit of breakage due to the loss of elasticity in the hair and it’s looking frizzy because as the hair breaks the broken ends stick out in all directions which interferes with the sleekness of the hair.

Because the structure internal fibers of hair, because of the reduced moisture level, is disrupted the hairs commonly take on a slightly ’disfigured’ shape meaning that the spaces between aligned dry hairs are usually greater than when well conditioned hairs are aligned, so the overall appearance of the hair is less smooth and sleek. With your hair, even though, it is curly, if it was in good condition the curls would be smooth because all the hairs would be aligned and close to each other forming a smooth curl.

So how can you improve your hair?
  • Wash your hair at least twice a week, more if possible.
Washing the hair is the perfect opportunity to put back moisture. It’s a myth that washing hair is bad for it.
  • Use good quality products on it and condition it every time with the best conditioner you can afford.
  • Use a treatment conditioner once a week until the condition improves then use it once a month to maintain it.
  • Use a good quality wide-toothed comb (saw cut if possible, it will say on the comb) to comb his hair and minimize the use of a brush. This is because a comb will cause less breakage while hair is in a fragile state.
  • Make sure that his diet is well balanced and nutritious - our hair is a product of what we eat, eat rubbish and you may well get rubbish!

 Maria asks:

The fringe of my hair has gone very thin, I have used many products but feel I have been wasting my money, the more I am worrying about it, the worse it is getting!

The first thing to do is stop worrying- the thinning of your hair can be easily remedied, without going to drastic measures. Aside from taking supplements and maintaining a health balanced lifestyle, just follow my 4 easy steps to doubling the volume of your hair instantly- no expensive treatments needed.
  1. After washing your hair rub a generous amount (about a tennis ball size amount) of Lee Stafford Ddouble Blow Mousse into your hair, which should help give you that root lift and movement that you need in your fringe and the main body of your hair to create added volume and thickness.
  2. Then as you blow dry you fringe be careful not to use too high a heat setting as this can dry out and damage your hair thus adding to the thinning problem.
  3. Be sure to vary the heat and wave of the dryer so that you don’t concentrate the air flow on one section for too long.
  4. Why not also try using my Lee Stafford Hair Growth Treatment in between shampooing and conditioning your hair. This product has a soothing formulation which reduces irritation caused to the hair by day to day products and moisturises the scalp. Massage a generous scoop of the treatment into your roots and leave for 5 minutes. Rinse out and condition as normal.

 Maria asks:

I’ve just had my hair dyed white blonde and would like a hot pink fringe but am worried that the pink will run into the blonde. Is it possible? Is there any permanent bright pink dye that won’t run in to my blonde? Or would I need to always wash the colours separately.

Yes it is possible to do but yes its also possible for the colour to run soooo, use foil to apply the colour and carefully wrap the hair in to a nice foil packet to develop, just wash the pink rather than the blonde to start with the next few times you wash your hair after a few washes it should be ok however be warned the pink will fade quickly.

Just bought Majimeche and liquid 1 and 2 what parts of tube to sachet do I mix no instructions am a hairdresser.

You want to mix around a quarter of a tube/half sachet then the peroxide, quantity of peroxide can be measured to your liking but I tend to like a formula with a smooth paste.

 Cerys asks:

I naturally have brown hair but I have been colouring my hair for the past year, I have had a purple chunk then blonde highlights to achieve a lighter brown which I hated so my hairdressers suggested dyeing it dark brown/black to get rid of it. I liked this colour to begin with but very quickly hated it and my hairdresser says the only way to go back to my natural colour is to strip it. So she stripped it then dyed it brown. However, it is not brown! I have very obvious brown roots and the rest is black. It looks awful and my hairdresser says she can’t fix it because if I strip it again my hair will be ruined. At the moment it feels in relatively good condition but I can’t leave my hair like this I just want brown hair! Are there any other options or should I just strip it again?

I suggest you tint only the roots to match the rest of the hair keep doing so until the mid lengths fade a little then try to add an all over colour

 Claire asks:

I have being dying my hair black now for quiet a while, and want to get it to a dark brown, could I do that without going to a Hairdressers? Just using colour zap?

Matthew DavidAnswered By:

You could use shampoos to help fade the black before applying any other dye, this would make it easier to achieve the desired colour
