Ashley asks:

I have a double crown that peaks up and I just hate it! My hair is usually quite dry so I put leave in conditioner, serum or some spray on it to calm it down. It’s naturally wavy so I always leave it to dry naturally usually putting a twist in it to enhance curls I recently tried the sock doughnut overnight thing, the curls turned out lovely but my double crown was really noticeable - how can I curl my hair without heat or too much product that will keep my double crown flat?! Help!

Longer hair will often help mask this problem as it will weigh the hair down. No matter what the length of your hair the alternative solution is inserting Velcro rollers to achieve your desired curl. Section the hair from the top of the crown into 20 sections depending on how thick the hair is in various directions and roll inwards towards the face. Start rolling from the top to the bottom of the hair to achieve a smooth finish. The hair that you are rolling should be as wide as the Velcro roller that you are inserting. After 1 or 2 hours in the hair, smooth out the hair with a paddle brush and although you didn’t want to use too much product, gels and smoothing serums can help add weight to the hair and make them lie in the desired direction.

Kendra asks:

My toddler girl has curly hair only in the back the rest is straight. I love it but how do you think this happened and how can I keep it this way? Do you think I did it by accident somehow by laying on her back while asleep or is it how I dry it or just her hair!

Most toddlers’ hair will change as they get older. You will find later on in life, their hair will go curly all over or the curls will drop out and their hair will be straight all over. You certainly didn’t do this by accident; this is a natural thing that happens.

Dani asks:

Every time I go to the hairdressers the main problem identified is that my hair is too wispy at the sides. I’m considering buying an inexpensive hair product, but I’m unsure what to buy. I also have to be careful since my hair does get rather greasy easily. What products can you suggest please?

I would strongly recommend Sebastian Thickefy Foam which is a styling product specifically for finer hair.

Laura Osborn asks:

I tried to dye my hair from delicate iced chocolate to radiant red and it has managed to go red at the top (which I am guessing is my original blonde coming through) can you give any advice on how I can get it a little more even? I originally wanted to go for a bright red but was aware that takes some prep.

When your hair is tinted all over and you want to go lighter, the hair needs to be pre-lightened first in order for you to have an even colour. I would advise that you visit a hair salon for this. Once you have achieved your desired colour then you can continue colouring your hair.

Adrianne asks:

I have very thick, curly hair that is frizzy and dry. You name it I have had it done in my battle to fight the frizz, chemical straightening, perming, Kerastraight etc - I have had it long and short, highlighted and my natural colour. I usually control the curls with a High Street mousse and it normally takes me an hour to wash mousse and part dry. I am now 42 and the grey hairs are appearing, I am also FED up with the hassle of styling, the itchy feeling mousse gives me and the time it takes - I don’t want to be doing this in my 50s! I am thinking of going back to short, with highlights and finding one of the hundreds of products out there that would be more suitable than mousse. Please can you suggest a style and product and should I have another Kera-Straight when I have it short - HELP!

Well it certainly sounds like you have tried some products over the years! I agree with you and probably for the easiest low maintenance I would go with a shorter more manageable style. If I’m honest I would have recommended a Keratin treatment but as an alternative you could try the new Wella System Professional Lux Oil and see if that works for you. Take a look on the Style Gallery there are lots of Styles to choose from and you can always print some off and take them along to the Salon.

Bertie asks:

I am a lady with longish hair that I have no idea what to do with. It is thinning on top and gets greasy easily but frizzy from about halfway and gets very tangled (I don’t overwork it; I only use heat about once a fortnight). Normally it goes in a bun for work as I don’t have time but you can see my scalp when I put it back. I would love a style that is low maintenance and doesn’t bring attention to how thin it is.

There are two pieces of advice I would offer. First is style wise I would suggest a variation of the classic bob. This is a low maintenance style and makes thinner hair appear thicker as well. Something else worth considering is a Keratin treatment, this will help with the frizziness and make your hair feel thicker and in better condition.

Nicole asks:

I have been growing my hair for 10 months and haven’t used any relaxers what type of hair products would you suggest for someone who wants to continue to remain natural.

The Keratin treatments that are on the market are very good for maintaining natural hair and at the same time promoting healthy hair that will grow far stronger. It is also much kinder to the hair.

Sabrina asks:

I tried to dye my hair from dark brown to blonde but it went yellow/orange so I put another blonde dye on and its gone blonde/grey/greenish on the roots I don’t know what to do to get it to a light brown colour or blonde.

When colouring dark hair lighter you get a lot of warmth. Dark hair throws a lot of real pigment. Now you have applied the colour again and you have a grey/greenish tone, I would advise that you go and have a free consultation at a salon rather than applying something else and damaging your hair.

Lee asks:

I have naturally wavy hair; I was using straighteners about 3-4 times a week on my hair. I have stopped using them but now my hair is not so wavy I was wondering is there any way to get my hair back to being naturally wavy like the way it was before?

AsgarAnswered By:

To increase the natural wave in your hair, you might want to allow the hair to dry naturally without using a hairdryer as heat will further straighten the hair. Before going to bed, apply a handful of mouse to towel dried hair and twist into four sections into four mini top knots. Use hair bands to secure and ensure that you sleep with the twisted top knots to hold the style of the twist. Untie the hair in the morning running your fingers through the hair. You will gradually train the hair to fall differently.

Hanan asks:

I have 2 completely different hair types the front portion is straight/wavy while the back portion is really frizzy curls/afro texture. I am unsure of how to style my hair. I don’t want to use heat or chemical treatments such as relaxers. Can you tell me a way that I could style my hair?

Darren MessiasAnswered By:
Darren Messias
I would recommend a Keratin Treatment for your type of textured hair. This is not a relaxer but simply adds Keratin back into the hair and this makes the hair more manageable and softer, whist improving the condition. If I’m honest if you do not want to use heat or chemical treatments you will find it very hard to style with just products.
