Want to reduce the static in your hair?

Then use leave in conditioners to add weight and minimise static. Also bear in mind that the most common form of static hair is over-drying. The special properties within heat-protecting sprays or styling lotions will provide a barrier against static, and using a boar's bristle brush, as opposed to a plastic one, will also help fight that flyaway hair.

A good skin is a perfect gift to anyone lucky enough to be born with it. But whatever your skin type there are many ways in which to improve on nature.

Speeding up the cell process is the key to clear skin. Use a gentle facial exfoliator once a week from now on.

• Facial scrubs contain tiny granules to rub away dead cells. Make sure you rise off thoroughly as residue can be uncomfortable and block open pores.
• Brushes give an intensive sloughing effect. Complexion brushes can be used on your face with a foaming cleanser; this is a good option for sensitive skin as the action is very mild. A clean flannel rubbed over your face with lots of cleanser also gives a mild exfoliating effect.
• Masks improve skin, so use on your body as well as your face.
• Exfoliate the body to improve circulation and get rid of dead cells which make skin look dull. Choose either a granulated shower gel, brush or loofah - all give the same results.
• Cleanse without drying - choose a moisturising body wash rather than soap to soften your skin.
• Moisturise to keep your skin looking good. A double helping of body lotion improves softness. Wait for 5 minutes after your bath or shower to add another layer.

We all love trichologist Philip Kingsley's products here but here's a home-made recipe recommended to us by the great man - it's quick and easy to prepare and really moisturizes dry hair.

Ingredients
• 1 banana
• ½ avocado
• 1 tbsp coconut oil
• 1 tbsp mayonnaise

Method

• Mix together all ingredients
• Apply the mixture to clean, dam hair
• Wrap you hair in cling film - the heat will activate the ingredients
• Leave the mask to work for 10 mins, then rise hair thoroughly.

Reader's tip

When shaving your legs, instead of using normal shower gel use hair conditioner, it softens the hairs reducing the brittleness of the next cycle of hairs. It also moisturises the skin leaving it soft and smooth.
