At
this time of year it's absolutely essential
to keep the skin thoroughly cleansed.
All this heat promotes excessive oil production,
especially on the face and décolleté area,
leading to clogged pores and blemishes.
Cleaning thoroughly night and morning
is essential, but it's also important
to refresh the skin during the day. A
good idea is to keep a face spritzer and
cotton pads in the desk drawer at work
- we love Liz Earles Skin Tonic as its
non drying - to freshen up as often as
you like during the day.
Obviously if you still wear foundation
during the summer months you will need
to reapply but if you're using a mineral
makeup this will be easy. Foundation and
hot weather really don't go together and
can be responsible for those tiny crops
of blemishes around the hairline and blocked
pores on the nose and chin.
If you need to even out the skin tone switch
to a tinted moisturizer or use a self
tan especially formulated for the face.
Using a gentle daily exfoliator at the
end of the day can also help prevent the
build up of grime and sebum and at this
time of year the skin will accept a gel/cream

moisturizer rather than a heavy duty cream.
(Try L'Oreal's Hydrafresh - suitable for
even dry skin types).
Although we produce more sebum in this weather
than in winter, fine lines will appear deeper
if you are dehydrated from within. Its estimated
that one in three of us don't drink nearly
enough fluid during the day to keep us fully
hydrated so increase your fluid intake (preferably
water) as much as you can whether you feel
thirsty or not. |

Hair
can also be a problem during excessive
heat,
especially for those with dry, frizzy
hair types.
Look out for moisturizing shampoos and conditioners
which will lock in moisture for as long
as possible and try a pre-wash treatment
such as Philip
Kingsley's Elasticizer to give added
strength to prevent dry hair from breakage,
or use a tailored hair recovery system such
as Biolustre
which can really help put strength back
into parched chemically treated hair. |

During
a heat wave,
many of us are bathing or showering
twice a day but it often feels too hot
to apply a body lotion. Instead, try
combining your moisturizing routine
with your shower gel by using Elemis
Moisturising Milk Bath. This gorgeous
formula can be used neat on the skin,
poured into the bath or used as a shower
gel and will moisturise beautifully
whilst cleaning thoroughly.
And remember, feet take a real pounding
at this time of year. Open sandals can
really cause a build up of hard skin on
the balls of the foot and heels. Dry,
cracked heels always look unsightly
and can be really sore so keep on top of
the condition by removing any dead skin
regularly. Applying a foot cream alone
won't do the trick unless you have exfoliated
the dead skin first, and it needs to
be done on at least a weekly basis.
Skin on the feet is the toughest of
all, so a good strength

exfoliator is
needed or if you already have a build up of hard
skin you will need a specific product
for the job. (Boots the chemist do a
great range). Exfoliating the feet can
also help with foot odour as it removes
those thick, 'waxy' layers of skin where
the bacteria that causes the odour lives.
Of course, don't leave home without
your SPF cream - it's the most important
step of your beauty routine at this
time of year.
