Key Hair Colour Trends For Autumn-Winter 2016

Davines International Colour Creative Ambassador, Edoardo Paludo, Reveals The Key Hair Colour Trends For Autumn/Winter 2016

Winter White

Icy white shades have taken over from grey as the standout shade this winter. There have been so many variations on this trend: at Saint Laurent, the look that dominated the catwalk was a platinum blonde style, reminiscent of Lady Gaga, Courtney Love and Madonna circa 1986. At Sibling, hair was coloured with a soft, beautiful off-white shade, which had a tinge of apricot. To keep platinum blonde and white hair looking bright, fresh and glossy and to reduce any yellow tones, use Davines Alchemic Shampoo and Conditioner in Silver, in between colour appointments.

Au naturel

Naturally mousey brown shades were prevalent at the A/W16 shows. The highlights and brighter shades we saw over summer have made way for much more natural looking brunette tones. It is an even more natural look than the recent trend for ‘bronde’ – a shade that is in between blonde and brunette. Joseph, Burberry and Christopher Kane all demonstrated this look at their A/W16 shows, with models sporting colours that were as close to their natural tone as possible. Davines’ newly launched Mask with Vibrachrom colouring formulas are ideal for recreating these natural brunette tones and for enhancing brunette natural tones in the hair, regardless of whether those natural shades are warmer or more ashen.

Touch of rouge

This fun look, as seen at Roksanda and Alexander McQueen, is one that works perfectly in winter. Cosmetically coloured red hair is notorious for fading fast, so is a colour that is better suited to winter, when harsh sunlight, pool chlorine and seawater are less of an issue. As with red lipstick, there is usually a shade to suit everyone and a good colourist will be able to create a shade of red to suit each individual client’s own skin tone, natural hair colour, personal style and their commitment to maintenance. At home, I recommend using Davines Alchemic Shampoo and Conditioner in Red: the direct pigments intensify the colour and vibrancy of red to mahogany hair.

Block brunette

Whether it’s gothic black, dark espresso or milk chocolate coloured, brunettes will be wearing their colour in block shades this season – no highlights, no lowlights, just one all-over shade. This was the standout beauty trend at Balmain and Alexander Wang A/W16, where models sported block brunette colour in shades several darker than their natural tone. This is a striking look, and can be stunning, however it tends to be much harsher and less flattering against the skin than hair that’s been subtly coloured in varying tones.
