HARROGATE STYLISTS FROM WEST ROW HAIRDRESSING WIN L’OREAL COLOUR TROPHY GRAND FINAL!
Stylists have won a shoot for fashion bible Vogue…
Harrogate hairstylists Leanne Brown and Simone Spencer are celebrating after winning the hotly-contested L’Oréal Professionnel Men’s Image Award at the Grand Final of the prestigious L’Oreal Professionnel Colour Trophy – beating off stiff competition from over 1200 salons with their photographic entry to be named the best in the UK! The Grand Final took place this Monday, June 1 at Earl’s Court in London, presented by TV personality Gethin Jones. Globally renowned hairdressers Trevor Sorbie MBE and Charles Worthington were among the judges who selected the winners. The fantastic prize includes a photoshoot for British fashion bible Vogue to be published in the October 2009 issue, and another shoot to capture the winning look in a London studio.
The pair is ecstatic to have won, with Leanne describing the influences behind their style as “A W 09 10 – a lot of Tom Ford and Dior. For the haircut we went for a classic style with a twist – really clean lines and a subtle colour. The model’s hair was originally black and we took him lighter. It was fantastic to win.” Harrogate salon manager Simone agreed, “It was just amazing. A win like this is fantastic for team morale. The judges were looking for a well-executed cut and colour and we felt that we did exactly that. We cater for both men and women in the salon and it’s fabulous to have our skill acknowledged like this. It just goes to show you don’t have to live in London to get top quality hairdressing.”

Last night’s final sees unprecedented win for Yorkshire salon group; Grand Final follows in June…
Award-winning Yorkshire salon group West Row Hairdressing is celebrating after last night’s North East Final of the prestigious L’Oreal Professionnel Colour Trophy; out of four finalists who went through to the grand final in London in June, three are West Row hairdressers! It’s an unprecedented success and the team is thrilled with the result. The finalists beat off stiff competition from over 1200 salons with their photographic entries to get to last night’s regional final, and triumphed out of the final 39 to grab their places in the grand final.
Nicola Hulatt and Sally Plain (Wetherby salon) and Guy Sutcliffe (Leeds) will now compete in the UK’s top 21 colourists at the L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy, while Leanne Brown and Simone Spencer (Harrogate) are among just seven teams who will compete for the L’Oréal Professionnel Men’s Image Award at the world’s longest running, most stylish hair competition. The North East final took place yesterday at Magna, Rotherham; competitors had just 30 minutes to create a winning look inspired by the Autumn Winter 09 10 catwalk collections.
Globally renowned hairdressers Trevor Sorbie MBE and Charles Worthington were among the judges that selected the Regional Finalists for this year’s event. West Row Director, Marc Rowbottom said, “We’re thrilled with the result, it’s an extremely proud day for the team. When the judges kept calling West Row’s name we were all blown away. It’s testament to our strong ethic of delivering the highest standard of colour work and fashion-forward training – anyone visiting West Row can be confident of a really fantastic, wearable colour.”

WEST ROW HAIRDRESSING ANNOUNCES 2009 AWARD WINNERS!
West Row Image Award comprised a photographic entry from every junior and assistant from each of the seven salons. The victorious youngster was Lewis Taylor, 19, Junior Assistant at York salon.
Second place: Harriet Stocks, 19, Junior Assistant, Wetherby salon. Runner Up: Jessica Lions, 19, Junior Assistant, 18 Thornton’s Arcade Leeds
Assistant of The Year Award saw the seven finalists (one winner from each salon) prepare a model, present a mood board, and explain their influences and techniques to the panel of judges, who included industry icons Rob Eaton and Terry Calvert of Clipso. The overall winner, Georgie Mathers, 17, Junior Asssistant at the 18 Thornton’s Arcade salon in Leeds, bagged a fabulous prize that included a place on L’Oreal Professionnel’s 2009 Exposure Tour to Barcelona Rome.
West Row Directors Marc Westerman and Steve Rowbottom compered the show, thanking Kerastase and L’Oreal for their ongoing support and presenting flowers to Samantha Moorhouse, Head of training for West Row, among others. The fantastic 12-model show was put together by Steve and the art team: Nicola Hulatt (Wetherby salon); Leanne Brown (Harrogate); Guy Sutcliffe (Leeds), and Laura Page and her West Park team and was followed by dancing until the early hours of the morning.

WEST ROW’S MATTHEW SUTCLIFFE WINS PLACE IN L’OREAL’S ID ART TEAM!

Matthew Sutcliffe (known in the salon as Guy!) from West Row Hairdressing at 18 Thornton’s Arcade, Leeds has won a coveted place – one of only twenty - in the L’Oreal ID Artistic Team for 2009-10.
As part of L’Oréal Professionnel’s continued commitment to education and developing young talent within the hairdressing industry, the ID Artist’s program was set up in 2003. It has become one of the most sought after educational opportunities for young hairdressers, inspiring those with an eye for fashion and unique creative expression.
The 2009 ID Artist programme kicked off in January with regional auditions across the country, seeking to find twenty young artists to be part of a two year education programme which aims to provide training in cut and colour techniques, product innovation, session styling and the latest catwalk looks, and also to develop the stage craft and presenting skills of Britain’s emerging talent.
For the X Factor style auditions, the young hopefuls had to present a mood board of their show idea, with a finished model to demonstrate their cutting and finishing ability, discuss the inspiration behind the finished look, present and show the styling products used and answer any questions from the panel.
Once chosen, the ID Artists are then invited on a 2-day training session with top educators such as Simon Shaw and Nick Bland from Haringtons, and session stylist Rudi Lewis, looking at the coming season’s hair cut trends and how to bring them to life in the salon, and session skills and styling inspired by the fashion trends, which can be readily used in the salon. They are also mentored in their presentation skills by industry icon Trevor Sorbie.
Once trained, the ID artists have platform opportunities to present at the L’Oréal Professionnel Catwalk Showcases during a regional tour to Dublin, Manchester, London, and Edinburgh, previewing the seasonal L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Collections to the industry. It’s testament to West Row Directors Marc Westerman and Steve Rowbottom’s training skills that Matthew follows in the footsteps of fellow West Row team member Nicola Hulatt, who graduated from the two-year programme this year.
